Ahmed Elsharkawy
Senior Map Specialist

Senior Map Librarian at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Alexandria, Egypt—a position I’ve proudly held since 2011. My work revolves around geographic information systems (GIS), cartographic research, and organizing events that promote geographic knowledge. I also provide research support for students, researchers, and various organizations. Since 2023, I’ve been a member of the Statistics and Evaluation Section Standing Committee at the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), where I contribute to global discussions on data analysis and library evaluation. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Geography from Alexandria University and am currently pursuing a Master of Arts in African Studies at Cairo University. My academic and professional journey has given me the opportunity to work on diverse projects—from coordinating GIS activities to training students and volunteers—and to engage in sustainable development initiatives. I’ve had the privilege to participate in major international events, including working as a UN Secretary during COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh and contributing to the "Youth for Reviving Humanity" initiative under the World Youth Forum. I’m also committed to continuous learning and have completed specialized training in areas like oceanographic survey techniques, Lidar data processing, and leadership development. Beyond my professional work, I’m passionate about playing the guitar and football. I’m also skilled in a range of digital tools, including QGIS, ArcGIS, and the Adobe Creative Suite, which support my work in mapping and digital cartography.
