WHAT IS OCEAN LITERACY?
Ocean literacy is more than just educating or informing the public and the marine and maritime stakeholders about the importance of oceans. Ocean literacy, via the use of behavioural change methods and by adopting a system approach, aims at facilitating the creation of an ocean literate society able to transform ocean knowledge into action.
OCEAN LITERACY AT SCHOOL
Ocean literacy is being incorporated into formal education in different ways and at different levels. UNESCO’s Director General has set the goal of including ocean literacy in curriculum frameworks of all 193 UNESCO Member States by 2025.
