New UNESCO Toolkit - Call for Conservation and Restoration Stories
Published
Jun 25, 2026

UNESCO is inviting contributions from practitioners worldwide to document how Ocean Literacy can shape the outcomes of marine conservation and restoration initiatives. The selected case studies will inform the development of a new UNESCO Toolkit on Ocean Literacy and marine conservation and restoration.
Through this call, UNESCO seeks to collect real-world examples from projects where Ocean Literacy has critically contributed to tangible outcomes, including strengthened community engagement, enhanced stewardship, improved restoration practices, and more sustainable conservation results.
Contributions should explicitly evidence the added value and impact of Ocean Literacy in shaping project outcomes.
Call for contributions:
UNESCO invites practitioners and researchers from the field of ocean conservation and restoration to share their experiences by completing a short online form. Contributors are encouraged to describe how Ocean Literacy has influenced or changed the outcome of a marine conservation or restoration project they have coordinated or managed.
Supporting photographs illustrating the project and/or ocean literacy in action may also be submitted.
Selected contributions will:
· Inform the development of a new UNESCO Ocean Literacy Toolkit
· Provide practical insights from field-based experiences
· Inspire and support practitioners working in marine conservation and restoration globally
Deadline for submissions:
All contributions must be submitted by 17 July.
Photo use and credits
Submitted images may be used in the Toolkit, and contributors are requested to provide appropriate photo credits.
