Morocco Blue School Network

The National Coordinator for Morocco was officially established in 2021.

As of August 2026, six Moroccan schools are part of the Blue Schools programme, bringing together approximately 45 teachers and more than 300 students nationwide and contributing to a growing community committed to a healthier and more sustainable ocean.

Description

Morocco joined the Atlantic Blue Schools Network in May 2021 and became part of the Global Blue Schools Network (GBSN) in 2024, marking a strong commitment to advancing Ocean Literacy and inspiring a new generation to understand, value and protect the ocean.

Since its launch, the Moroccan coordination has been building bridges between schools, universities, students, local communities and partners, turning ocean education into engaging, hands-on experiences that connect knowledge with action.

The journey began on 25 June 2021 at Groupe Scolaire Ouled Zid in El Jadida, where 48 students discovered the marine environment through interactive workshops, drawings and presentations, despite the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In February 2022, an inspiring Ocean Day at the French International School Jean Charcot brought together 60 students, supported by 11 Master’s students who animated educational games and interactive presentations. The network also contributed to the Coastal Engineering Days (25–26 February 2022), linking ocean education with scientific expertise and sustainable blue growth.

The momentum continued with a second Ocean Day on 8 June 2023 at Jean Charcot School, followed by a joint activity with the University of Montpellier on 15 February 2024 at Fkih Hattab Primary School, introducing younger students to major ocean challenges.

On 6 February 2026, the third Ocean Day and closing ceremony of the ProBleu Project, hosted at the Faculty of Sciences of El Jadida, brought together awareness workshops and student-led project presentations, highlighting the creativity and commitment of young ocean ambassadors.

Most recently, in partnership with the Association des Doukkala, a “Beach Class – Understanding the Sea to Better Protect It” was organized at Deauville Beach, El Jadida, on 11 June 2026. Supervised by Prof. Khalid El Khalidi and four professors and supported by students from the Faculty of Sciences of El Jadida, the activity brought ocean learning directly to the beach, connecting scientific knowledge with the realities of coastal environments.

Through these initiatives, Morocco is fostering experiential learning, youth engagement, community participation and stronger connections between science, education and coastal society, turning Ocean Literacy into a shared culture of knowledge, responsibility and action.

As of August 2026, six Moroccan schools are part of the Blue Schools programme, bringing together approximately 45 teachers and more than 300 students nationwide and contributing to a growing community committed to a healthier and more sustainable ocean.
