This world is a treasure island for the one who wants to explore. There are countless minerals, species including flora and fauna, human made structure which sank in the sea centuries ago in unexplored corners. Almost everyone is well versed with the fact that 71% of this world is covered by oceans, despite this fact, only 5% has been explored so far. Though humans are terrestrial organisms, but still because of numerous reasons human depend on the sea, such reasons can be the food items, bread and butter of an individual or group, precious gems, minerals and many others, which makes ocean the mother of life. Other than this, ocean is also a major source for development in the field of science whether through the advancement in the technology or through the collection of the data for pharmaceutical purpose, which can further assist the mankind. Therefore study in this field is quite important. The discipline which deals with ocean is known as Oceanography. Oceanography is a thread which connects the fields of geology, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering to explore the ocean. Every coin has its two sides, likewise the exploration of the sea turns into exploitation of the sea, when it starts being done on excessive level. The ocean holds life in it, which should not be destroyed at any cost, but nowadays in so called modern era, in lieu of scientific research and development, mankind is ruining the life of the ocean. There are some big threats being faced by the ocean due to overfishing, garbage dumping, illegal activity, and atomic weapon test, etc. A huge variety of species exist in the ocean among which over 400 species are exploited by humans as food resources from the marine environment. Humans are damaging the biodiversity without making a contemplation of the future generation, as it will wind up becoming a huge danger to the mankind in near future. The purpose of the research is to determine the stage where exploration becomes exploitation and to suggest suitable methods to prevent such exploitation. The study is expected to conclude with identifying the real causes for the marine exploitation, so that immediate advantages of exploration can be taken while preventing the exploitation at the same time and the scientific research and development can be balanced with sustainability in marine biodiversity.
