The Blue Schools programme in Aruba aims to engage schools across the island in raising awareness and action around ocean literacy, marine conservation, and sustainable coastal development.
Participating schools incorporate hands-on learning about local marine ecosystems, link curriculum to the United Nations Ocean Decade priorities and the goals of IOC Sub‑Commission for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions, and collaborate with local partners to build real-world stewardship projects such as coral restoration, beach clean-ups and citizen science monitoring. Over time, the initiative seeks to embed “blue thinking” into school culture and empower students to become active guardians of Aruba's marine environment.
