A Call to Action for Ocean Literacy: From Venice to Nice to Belem

We are pleased to announce the launch of the global Call to Action for Ocean Literacy, presented at UNESCO’s official side event at the Third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3).
This global initiative, supported by the Governments of Australia, Sweden, and French Polynesia, along with the French Ministry of National Education, the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of the Federative Republic of Brazil, invites institutions, organizations, and individuals to make a concrete pledge to advance Ocean Literacy as a key enabler of ocean action and sustainability.
Pledges may include commitments in different areas such as education, research, policy, communications, capacity development, or community engagement. All contributions will be instrumental in supporting the implementation of SDG 14 and strengthening the global Ocean Literacy movement.
These commitments can take many forms—big or small—but they should be action-oriented, realistic, and measurable, to facilitate progress tracking and celebrate results at the next UN Ocean Conference in three years.
