Julia Ritter

I have been working for the press/communications department of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea for many years, giving presentations on ocean governance, UNCLOS and the work of the Tribunal as part of my work. It is astonishing how little the general public knows about the ocean – this has led me to develop an ocean awareness website, aimed at school children but accessible to all, in an attempt to provide an overview of ocean topics, and to offer ocean workshops for secondary school students, hoping to inspire them to become ocean citizens and perhaps even explore ocean careers. Since 2024 I have also been supporting the Ocean Literacy projects of the German Ocean Foundation.
