I am an emerging South Australian visual artist producing art with an environmental focus with a hope that it may contribute to bringing about much needed change. My work has been exhibited at the 'Creative Climate Awards' in New York in 2018 and 2019 and won the inaugural International Environmental Communication Association 'Outstanding Art Award' in Vancouver in 2019. Work produced on anthropogenic themes includes 'Unleashing Hell', 2017, on bushfires and 'Filter', 2018, on rising sea levels and coastal erosion. The third example is 'Uprising' that imagines the voice of the ocean and its inhabitants as they deliver messages as long overdue feedback. Released in February 2021, 'Uprising' contains mostly photographs taken in and on the water and are presented in the company of found objects and moving image works. As the title suggests the work has been influenced by a recent growth in environmental street protests around the globe. I had been selected to exhibit at the UN endorsed Our Coastal Futures Conference in the Gold Coast, Australia in 2020, however this is likely to be postponed until 2022. With separate qualifications in Visual Communication (Graphic Design) and Visual Art, I am interested in the challenge of translating complex information into visual forms that are accessible to a broader audience. https://neville.cichon.id.au
