A Lighthouse Project is more than a good idea. It is a tested, structured programme that has shown real impact in student learning, community involvement and ocean awareness. At the same time, it is designed to be a starting point, something schools can take, adapt and make their own.

A Lighthouse Project must

Demonstrate strong alignment with the Blue School criteria — including knowledge, action, values and community engagement;

Be educationally sound, with clear goals, methodology and resources adapted for school use;

Offer a replicable model that can be scaled across different countries and contexts;

Include mechanisms to support schools during implementation;

Show evidence of positive impact in student learning, community involvement and sustainability awareness.
